The Directorate of International Relations and European Union of the Hellenic Ministry of Culture obtained its current structure with the Presidential Decree No 4 "Organisation of the Ministry of Culture and Sports" (Official Gazette of the Hellenic Republic 7A/22.01.2018), article 5 "Directorate of International Relations and European Union".
The Department of International Relations has the following competences:
a) Monitoring of cultural and sports affairs discussed at an international level; preparation of Agreements and Executive Programmes on Bilateral / Transnational Cultural Cooperation between Greece and other countries; participation of Greece in events related to Culture abroad, and cooperation of the Ministry of Culture with foreign diplomatic authorities and foreign cultural institutions in Greece.
b) Participation and representation of the Ministry of Culture in procedures of preparation of programmes on cultural policy and cooperation with the organisations of Greeks Abroad, with the activities of the "World Capital" institution and in the context of international organisations.
c) Data collection on the international visibility of contemporary culture in the context of foreign cultural policy.
d) Monitoring and evaluation of data related to the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, the Directorate coordinates co-competent services of the Ministry of Culture, evaluates the progress of their implementation and provides technical assistance to other departments.
