The project "Origins" was the proposal of the Ephorate of Antiquities of Athens City/ Hellenic Ministry of Culture & Sports in the framework of European Heritage Stories 2018.
Its aim was to discover the European values within the territory of Athens in order the youngsters to trace the European identity and to increase the understanding of the shared history of Europe, focusing on values of pan-European nature: freedom of expression / speech, democracy and the rule of law, citizenship and participation, scientific thought and human creativity that underpin European integration.
The project involved firstly the production of a short film entitled "Origins" on a teenager strolling "The Heart of Ancient Athens" that is the Acropolis, the Dionysos Theatre, the Ancient Agora, the Pnyx, the Kerameikos, the Roman Agora and the Library of Hadrian, discovering the materiality of European values in their principal formation, during the classical era. Secondly, relevant educational activities had been implemented and educational material had been produced and disseminated.
We do wish that "Origins" will travel all over Europe and may be a contribution towards empowering youngsters to determine themselves and to choose their role in the European society.
