For another year, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, under the coordination of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, organizes a variety of cultural events offering the public free admission to archeological sites and museums in order to celebrate the August full moon.
The theme of this year poster is inspired by the 200 years anniversary of the Greek Revolution. The poster is adorned with a picture of the fortification complex of Troupakis - Mourtzinos in Kardamili, where Theodoros Kolokotronis, spent some days during the preparation of the revolution.
On the night of Sunday, 22nd August 2021, 120 archaeological sites and museums all over the country will be open to the public to enjoy the Full Moon. 52 events will take place in various archaeological sites and museums on August 22nd.
Only few of them will be held on different dates:
l 20 August: - Aigai (Museum of the Royal Tombs)
l 21 August: - Kefalonia (Castle of St. George)
- Lesvos (upper Castle of Mytilene)
- Mieza, near Naousa (Ancient Theatre)
- Thesprotia (Archaeological site of Elea)
l 23 August: -Kilkis (Archaeological site of Palatiano)
l 25 August: -Kilkis (Archaeological site of Bath at Polycastro)
The events are mainly music concerts, theatrical and dance performances, poetry recitations, documentary screenings, art exhibitions, stargazing and guided tours. Most of them have been organized in collaboration with the local authorities and cultural or local improvement associations.
The events and the visit of the public to the archaeological sites and museums will be carried out in accordance with the applicable security protocols in the context of limiting the spread of the COVID 19 disease and in accordance with the applicable security measures during their implementation.
