August Full Moon 2026

The Hellenic Ministry of Culture will once again celebrate the August Full Moon with a nationwide programme of cultural events, coordinated by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage, on Friday, 28 August 2026.

On the night of the Full Moon, 126 archaeological sites, historic places, monuments and museums throughout Greece will welcome visitors free of charge, to experience the country's cultural heritage in the enchanting atmosphere created by the August moonlight.

The programme includes cultural events at 61 archaeological sites, monuments and museums, while an additional 65 sites will remain open to visitors with free admission from approximately 19:30/20:00 until 23:00/24:00.

Extending beyond the Full Moon evening itself, this year's celebration also features events on 26, 27, 29 and 30 August. Concerts, theatrical performances, dance productions, exhibitions and guided tours form part of a rich and diverse programme organized by the Services of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the General Directorate of Restoration, Museums and Technical Works, often in collaboration with regional and local authorities, cultural institutions and community organizations across Greece.

Now in its 27th consecutive year, the August Full Moon brings together archaeological sites, museums and monuments across Greece in a major celebration of culture.

The Ministry of Culture invites the public on Friday, 28 August 2026 to take part, in this year's celebration and to discover the unique charm of Greece's monuments and cultural sites under the light of the August Full Moon.
